What personal data we collect and why we collect it

Contact Forms

The only personal data we may collect and store is anything you provide using a contact form. We hold this data because we understand that you want us to keep in contact with you to provide information about our website and its content.

This data consists of your name, email address and any comments you leave. If you provide further information, such as phone number, organisation or address, we will store that.

We store this data securely and in full compliance with any and all regulations and laws, including GDPR (General Data Protection Regulations).

Comments

Currently, the Comments feature for the website is switched off, so visitors are not able to leave comments. If this is switched on in the future, some personal data will be collected to enable the feature to work properly.

If visitors are allowed to leave comments on the site in future, we will collect the data shown in the comments form, and also the visitor’s IP address and browser user agent string to help spam detection.

Visitors leaving comments in future may opt in to saving their name, email address and website in cookies. These are for convenience only, so that they do not have to fill in these details again when leaving another comment. These cookies will last for one year.

An anonymised string created from their email address (also called a hash) may be provided to the Gravatar service to see if they are using it. The Gravatar service Privacy Policy is available at: https://automattic.com/privacy/. After approval of a comment, the user's profile picture will be visible to the public in the context of their comment.

Embedded content from other websites

Articles on this site may include embedded content (e.g. videos, images, articles, etc.). Embedded content from other websites behaves in the exact same way as if the visitor has visited the other website.

These websites may collect data about visitors, use cookies, embed additional third-party tracking, and monitor visitor interaction with that embedded content, including tracking interaction with the embedded content if they have an account and are logged in to that website.

Analytics

We monitor how visitors use the website in order to understand how to improve it. All data we monitor is anonymous, and contains no personal data.

Who we share your data with and how long we retain data

We do not share any data about our visitors with any third parties, including selling or exchanging it for commercial purposes. The only potential exception is if we are compelled to provide information about our website for legal reasons, in which case we will comply with any applicable legal obligations.

We store data for as long as you wish to stay in contact with us, and will check periodically with you that this is still the case.

What rights you have over your data

If you have provided us with any personal data, you can request to receive an exported file of the personal data we hold about you. You can also request that we erase any personal data we hold about you. This does not include any data we are obliged to keep for administrative, legal, or security purposes.

Where we send your data

We do not send your data anywhere. If we turn on the Comments feature in future, visitor comments may be checked through an automated spam detection service.

Additional information

If you have any queries about the data we hold, how we store it or what we do with it, please contact us and we will respond promptly.
